Here’s a photo of us with our mom taken in January, 2020. It was before the COVID-19 pandemic, but there was a case of flu at our mom’s memory care and we had to be careful. We were ready. Unfortunately, our mom passed away of COVID and we did not have the heart to continue recording podcast episodes. This site will be here for now, until we are ready to take it down.
We are sisters, we are both mothers and thank goodness we are friends. Our mom has Alzheimer’s from a traumatic brain injury, the same type of brain injury that football players and boxers get.
Our mom had a bad fall about 30 years ago that landed her in the hospital for about 5 days with a severe concussion. She also fell when we were both in high school (let’s just say that was a long time ago) and she had another fall about 20 years ago that also ended with her being in the hospital with another concussion.
In 2009, we think our mom must have fallen again when she was alone and didn’t tell anyone. She had a terrible headache for three weeks and had to go to the urgent care where they did a CT scan and found a subdural hematoma (bleeding on her brain) and she had brain surgery.
Though you could say any of the other head injuries previous to the surgery started our mom’s Alzheimer’s, it is the surgery that changed everything. To put it bluntly, our mom was never the same after that.
Also, When They Forget can be shortened as WTF. Coincidence? 🙂
